Hunter Birkhead came to Advent Lutheran Church in Arlington, Texas, shortly prior to the beginning of sheltering at home during the pandemic. Under his leadership (and quick learning curve!), Advent was almost immediately able to become a robust online presence, serving not only the membership worshiping from home, but also reaching previous members and others unknown to the congregation. His adaptability is only one of his great talents.
Hunter began his career early as a church musician at age 16 when he says he was rescued from difficulties at that age by a church in his hometown that hired him to lead their worship. In his words, “I was shepherded down the path” of a career in music and “recognized the call to serve and give back to the church the gift of music.”
Hunter wears many hats, not only as the worship leader of both the traditional and contemporary services, but also as a soloist, and encourager and teacher of the voice and bell choirs. He sees his role as a steward to other voices to worship God and engage all musicians, including instrumentalists, particularly young musicians to share their gifts as well. His talent as a musician allows him to connect with all ages and all gifts.
Thank you, Hunter, for your leadership and for sharing your talent to show how God’s grace works through music to change lives.
